Regan Murray Memorial Tournament #2

Over the weekend Saturday 1st June and Sunday 2nd June we hosted our first ever tournament to rise funds for a charity that works towards the prevention of young suicide – PAPYRUS.

We were delighted that the weekend went to plan and that everyone enjoyed themselves over the course of the 2 days. We will get on to the football in a minute…but, we managed to raise an amazing £1,500 for PAPYRUS and this could not have been possible without the help and support of many, many people and businesses.

Everyone who donated a raffle prize, helped over the weekend, with the planning, organising, execution or even just donating some money towards the fund we cannot thank you enough.

The final standings are as follows:

  1. Erskine
  2. Busby G&D
  3. Hillwood
  4. Thorn Athletic
  5. Langcraigs
  6. Cambuslang FA
  7. Busby P&D
  8. Ferguslie Star

Over the course of the weekend, we had asked the match referees to give us who they thought was their player of the tournament. After all the matches on the Sunday the referees had chosen Liam Simms of Erskine. Congratulations Liam!

Photos from the tournament will be updated ASAP.

Regan Murray Memorial Tournament

We are hosting the Regan Murray Memorial Tournament this coming weekend, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June 2019, at Huntly playing fields in Giffnock.

This tournament has been organised in the name of one of our 2004 players who tragically took his own at the tail end of 2018. We have teamed up with the charity PAPYRUS who work towards the prevention of young suicide across the United Kingdom. All proceeds that are raised from this tournament will be going directly to the charity.

This tournament will see 8 x 2004 teams from across the West of Scotland competing to be the inaugural winners of this tournament. The list of teams competing are:

  • Busby AFC G&D
  • Busby AFC P&D
  • Langcraigs
  • Cambuslang FA
  • Thorn Athletic
  • Erskine
  • Hillwood
  • Ferguslie Star

Each team will play 3 group matches on Saturday with the play off/final matches on Sunday.

We have received a massive amount of support from local businesses who have provided us with their services/products to raise as much money as possible. A post in the coming days will be published to thank all of these companies.

Please find attached information pack below.

Regan Murray

It is with great sadness that we announce that one of our GADYFL 2004 players, Regan Murray, has taken his own life on Tuesday night.

We would like to express our deepest of condolences to Regan’s parents, brother and his younger sister at this extremely hard time.

You will always be part of the Busby AFC family.

The club have created a fundraising account which will be wholly donated to the family of Regan at this extremely devastating and heartbreaking time.

Please donate here.

RIP Regan.
